Sunday is my favourite #8

The most interesting day of the week for me is always Sunday. That is my first day-off from my normal day-job, which means the first proper working day as an illustrator and surface pattern designer. So if I am able to, I like to start it early, do a bit of work and then follow the rest of my plans – which is usually more work or meeting my Sister.

I thought I’d make a series about how my Sundays look like, and the reasons for that:

* I have a really bad memory, so I’d like to have sg like a diary, but I cannot do that on paper, because I’d love to insert photos, but my printer is broken..
* Also I’d like to share useful things with you, like how to make yourself happy with a tiny thing (e.g. the joy of making a cup of coffee), places to visit (mostly in London, because I live here), what books or blogs to read etc.

Hello Everyone πŸ™‚ I have simply forgotten to post last Sunday’s “Sunday is my favourite” post.. I am tired. Very tired.. I have been working a lot, some unexpected problems came up as well, so even though I started to write this post on Sunday, I never finished it until today, when I realised I completely forgot about it.

My Sunday wasn’t too exciting though, I mean it was good for me, got up early (5am) to work on my Etsy shop and Pinterest page, went to the Farmer’s Market, painted some Inktober pics (some missing ones and some in advance as well, because I knew I won’t have time during the week), talked to my family on the phone, baked some snacks, so I am just going to show you a few photos of my day, I hope you will still like it πŸ™‚

viktoria.rodek.etsy.originals.indigo.folkso this is how the shop looks like

viktoria.rodek.inktober.original.ink.painting.onmydeskwork in progress (this is not always how messy my desk is when I paint, but.. usually it is, ’cause even though it’s a simple pattern with one colour, I need all this stuff πŸ™‚ )

viktoria.rodek.cake.sweet.wordpress.blogbanana bread and cranberry balls πŸ™‚ (don’t like cooking, but I love eating, especially sweets, so baking is fine.. πŸ™‚ )

Well, that’s all for today, I hope you liked this post, planning to create more exciting content, I just need tiiiimeeee….. πŸ™‚

Today’s post will be a my-day-in-pictures post. Because I didn’t make a proper time schedule, however I have had a very productive day, but not a lot of interesting things to talk about πŸ™‚

Β

first I had to transfer some sketches to the watercolour papers for the missing three Inktober paintings (and that’s my lovely lightbox, I can’t tell how much it makes my job easier)
then I went to the Farmer’s Market (love the colours of autumn, don’t you?)
and I had to walk home with tons of heavy stuff, so I thought I deserve a coffee πŸ™‚

did you now there is a Time Capsule list on Spotify? probably based on the year we were born it counts when we were teenagers? because it’s pretty accurate for me, and I don’t normally listen to these songs, so the list cannot be inspired by that. whatever the reason, I loved this list yesterday, I was a big fan of Westlife, then Green Day (not at the same time though, haha), then The Goo Goo Dolls, but I also loved this song The Call by Backstreet Boys, Wannabe by Spice Girls of course, so yes, the list is great πŸ™‚Β

I painted the missing Inktober pages

and I uploaded them in my Etsy shop

I hope you’ve had a nice Sunday too, see you next week! πŸ™‚

Hey Everyone,

Today’s post will be a bit different, because I spent a few days in Copenhagen, so on Sunday I actually spent my day with traveling and unpacking and catching up with my usual everyday stuff, so I did have a productive day, but it wasn’t that interesting, so I thought I’d rather share a few pictures with you about my trip πŸ™‚
The basic story behind this mini holiday: this was our first sister-trip with Fanni, my Sister. We were never able to afford this in the past, but finally we are grown-ups to do this now πŸ™‚ We didn’t even spend a lot on this, we found cheap flight tickets (it was already a bit chilly this time of the year in Copenhagen, but you know, cheap tickets for a little colder weather=totally worth it πŸ™‚ ), we found a room on airbnb, not a whole flat, but a lovely room in a lovely girl’s home (we just spent a few hours to sleep there anyway πŸ™‚ ), and we didn’t spend much on food, except coffee and pastries.. :))

IMG_9002great cafe, lovely staff, wonderful coffee, amazing cinnamon roll – everything just spot on.. we tried a few cafes, but this was our top favourite, it’s called
The Coffee Collective

DSC_0103

DSC_0104also we love walking and exploring things that way, which is always free πŸ™‚ (maybe just a bit rainy occasionally πŸ™‚ )

IMG_3684me…

DSC_0131the botanical garden is amazing too… definitely a must see – if you love parks and plants of course

IMG_9113on Saturday it was raining like crazy, and unfortunately our shoes didn’t manage it too well, so instead of walking and seeing more undiscovered streets and beautiful houses, we visited Design Museum Danmark, and look at this beautiful embroidery…!

IMG_9144also amazing chairs…! (and my Sister πŸ™‚ )

IMG_9083and a light indigo and a light mustard house next to each other?
best two houses ever πŸ™‚

That’s it for today, I hope you’ve enjoyed this post πŸ™‚ If you are planning to visit Copenhagen, don’t hesitate to ask, not like I’m an expert, but maybe I can answer some questions.
Have a lovely week!

I think I’m going to write the blogpost based on my list with the timings again – it might be useful for you as well to use a this kind of schedule if you like to procrastinate or you just often don’t know where your time disappeared!

5:20Β Good morning coffee and organising thoughts πŸ™‚

5:40 – 7:00Β Finishing some greeting card designs for my agent.

7:00 – 8:00 Breakfast and clearing up the room for the day πŸ™‚

8:00 – 9:00 Talking to my Mum. That’s my Sunday routine, I like having this kind of habits, it gives me stability.

9:00 – 10:00 Talking to my Dad. And getting some photo lessons on Facetime, because he loves taking photos, he explains really well, and I am a moron πŸ™‚ Our lense was broken, so we needed a new one, and we bought one step better, so now I really want to learn some information to use it well. Look at this baby πŸ™‚

10:00 – 11:00Β Talking to my Sister and going to the Farmer’s Market. (I don’t talk always this much on the phone, usually I do not call my family all in one day, but Sundays are different, that’s when we have time to see each other too.) Also, I have written a little bit of my opinion about Farmer’s Markets here if you fancy reading it πŸ™‚

11:00 – 11:30Β Coffee and snack πŸ™‚

this is the whole set of ceramics Aston Pottery made with my
watercolour robins on for Kew Gardens πŸ™‚

11:30 – 15:00Β INKTOBER starts today! I have never participated before, but this year I thought It will be a good practice, because I love colours so much, I need to focus Β more on the shapes now and reduce the colours, at least for a month. And I have actually been in love with indigo for a while anyway, I decided to use indigo for this project too.
So I have painted today’s page and I have made some sketches for the next ones – because I am such a slow gal when it comes to painting, I cannot let myself do the thinking, sketching and painting all in one day each day for the whole month, because as you may know I have a dayjob as well. I am also going away for a few days, so I need to think in advance πŸ™‚ (more info about that next week πŸ™‚ )

15:00 – 15:30Β Lunch

15:30 – 18:00Β Trying some new recipes, making some surprise food for my Love, because he has to be on a special diet, so it’s always a challenge what ha can eat, the list is very-very short, so often he looks around, and then eats nothing instead, because it’s just so boring. Also it’s definitely going to be a nice surprise because I don’t like cooking or baking… (baking is a slightly better…) πŸ™‚ But this time I made some veggie crisps and apple twists. None of them is perfect but the enthusiasm of trying something makes it better, I believe πŸ™‚

18:00 – 20:00Β Researching and sketching for a new commission, I can show you a little bit, I think πŸ™‚

That’s it for today, I hope you’ve had a nice Sunday, and if you liked my post, come back in a week as well! (probably I will post the next of this series on Monday though, because I won’t have time on Sunday! But I might have a post in between too, you never know πŸ˜‰ )

Sunday is my favourite #3

The most interesting day of the week for me is always Sunday. That is my first day-off from my normal day-job, which means the first proper working day as an illustrator and surface pattern designer. Hi Everyone – I am wondering if anyone reads this blog at all actually..? Well, I decided to write it mainly because of myself, and it’s good for me to have this every Sunday to take care of, but if there would be readers also, I would make some tutorials, step by steps, so useful things too πŸ™‚

So please, if you’re around, let me know if you’d be interested in that kind of thing – if you want, you can even leave some things you’d like me to talk about!

But for now let’s get back to the normal Sunday post! I have skipped last Sunday, because I was at home in Hungary, and I didn’t feel like writing – and because this blog is made for fun, I did not want to force myself to write just because it was ‘Sunday-is-my-favourite-day’. But here I am today πŸ™‚
I have written a strict to-do-list for myself yesterday – that is important so I can make the most of my day, time limit is definitely useful for me, otherwise I keep checking what’s happening on Instagram for example.. πŸ™‚
So I got up at 4:30 – because as you know now, Sundays are my favourite, and I am the most active in the mornings, and I already had this list yay πŸ™‚ I think I’m actually going to write the blogpost based on my list with the timings – it might be useful for you as well!

4:30 – 5:00Β Coffee and Frannerd’s newest video.Β I love her videos, very easygoing, but very useful!

5:00 – 7:00 Adjusting some work as requested, then writing this post. Doing some research (bus timetable checking and things like that) and writing some emails.

viktoria.rodek.illustration.christmas.sundayismyfav3.01..jpgOne of my latest card-designs, part of my 2017 Christmas range, but I was told it’s not very christmassy, and I think I have to agree, so I changed it to a birthday card. I hope it will be christmassy enough together with the stickers I am going to print, so the whole collection with snowflakes and things like that will be better πŸ™‚

7:00 – 8:00 Breakfast – washing up from yesterday before it, that’s why I need a whole hour.. oops.

8:00 – 9:00 Talking to my Mum and organising the flat – it’s always a mess by Sunday (ok, let’s be fair to my FiancΓ©, my stuff is a mess, he’s fine, but also he has a lot less stuff to keep organised in my defence πŸ™‚ )

9:00 – 12:00 Working on a commission (a label for jars of homemade goodies like jam, dried herbs – I love these things πŸ™‚ ) and developing my Christmas stickers.

12:00 – 13:00Β Talking to my Sister, lunch, little bit of reading (Harry Potter of course..).

13:00 – 14:00Β Relaxing time – mainly because early afternoon is my weakest time, I cannot function properly, so I am unable to work, I have to do either cleaning or relaxing. Usually even longer, but I always try to fix this problem with another cup of coffee πŸ™‚

14:00. Reviewing my to-do-list, trying to sort out when to finish my half-finished things. I’ve got still 6 hours to go, until my Love’s coming home from work, so I have to use these hours well.

experimenting with my new shiny golden acrylic paint πŸ™‚ (I know you cannot really tell it is shiny, but it is πŸ™‚ )

more indigo in my sketchbook. see the previous one here

18:00 – 19:00 Talking to a Friend and my Dad and organising a bit more – the flat is still a mess….. But during organising, I realised I want to bake a cake… So I did.. πŸ™‚ No photo though, because it’s getting too dark too soon.

19:00 – 20:00 Finishing this blogpost, uploading to my insta-stories.

20:00.Β Dinner and probably a bit more drawing.. πŸ™‚ And tomorrow – exciting day, stay tuned on my insta-page!

That’s it for today, I hope you’ve had a lovely Sunday, and if you liked my post, check my blog in a week as well! Also as I have written in the beginning, do let me know if you’d like some tutorials, tips, anything really πŸ™‚

Sunday is my favourite #2

The most interesting day of the week for me is always Sunday. That is my first day-off from my normal day-job, which means the first proper working day as an illustrator and surface pattern designer. So if I am able to, I like to start it early, do a bit of work and then follow the rest of my plans – which is usually more work or meeting my Sister.

I thought I’d make a series about how my Sundays look like, and the reasons for that:

The most interesting, I said? Well, not this one unfortunately.. probably most of us (women in this case) know what period pain is. But I think the main problem with it is not just the unbearable pain itself, but that men cannot understand. (this might sound a bit feminist, but if you can get to the end, you’ll see it’s not even that. I’d just like everyone to be equally respected) And I can’t even complain, because my Love knows he has no idea how bad it could be, but he can imagine based on how I look like. But the men who do not appreciate their wives, the ones who think women worth less… just makes me fuming. Just because we are less strong physically, we are not able to lift up as much as men do (well, in general, you know what I mean), it doesn’t mean we are less strong people. Between the age of 15-60 we have to deal with monthly period pain, giving birth, menopause. And they all come with mood swings, spots, cravings etc. every single month. And they dare to say tampax and sanitary pad is a luxury product! Also that a person Β in general suffers from serious pain in twentysomething hours in a lifetime…! Must be all men coming up with these ideas..

I’m sorry about this post, this blog is about fun stuff, tips, illustration, but also about me, and this is me too. And do not get me wrong, I’m not saying, women are more than men either. I just hate when they think they are more than us. (however they all come from mothers, right..?)
No, there are as many good, worthy or useless, rude women as men. How much we worth does not depend on our gender, but how good persons we are.

Anyway! Let’s get back to business, shall we? πŸ™‚ So there was some fun stuff today too, don’t worry, I am quite a complainer (like all the Hungarians, it’s in our blood πŸ™‚ ), but I am trying to develop πŸ™‚ So even though I’m in pain, and I had to cancel the original plans (going to Columbia Road Flowers Market), I met my Sister for a coffee (where I didn’t have to move much πŸ™‚ ).

Our favourite place to go to Sunday mornings, when we don’t have any other plans is one of the Nordic Bakeries. It’s quiet early in the morning, they have lovely pastries, great coffee, and we need nothing more for our few hours chat with my Sister πŸ™‚

I also worked on some of my ideas, I’ll show you below, but not much, because I had to pack for travelling home. So next Sunday, post is coming from Hungary, probably with not much drawing and painting, but more cakes and dogs πŸ™‚

working on an indigo collection

wreath, text will be placed inside later

and a thank you card for someone who helped me getting my first proper, big commission

That’s it for today, I hope you’ve had a lovely Sunday, and if you liked my post, check my blog in a week as well! And if my plans are going well, soon there will be another series with some tutorials and tips. We’ll see.
